FITA is attending the British Women Pilots’ Association (BWPA ) 2013 Christmas lunch today. Our CEO will be guest speaker at the gathering, along with a recipient of a scholarship from the Flying Scholarship for Disabled People (FSPDP).

Formed in 1955 the BWPA came into being ten years after World War II Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) women pilots had been thanked for their services to their country, been patted on the head and told to go back to their kitchens. Amongst our membership are student pilots, airline captains, military pilots and flying instructors.

We were invited by swift aircraft to attend the 2013 UK Flying Show at Birmingham’s NEC. Whilst there we managed to get a few words with Caroline – the current Chair of the BWPA.

The BWPA is a membership organisation that exists to support women who fly or who are learning to fly and to encourage participation in aviation by women who currently don’t. Today there are many more women in aviation. Members are of all ages, experience and backgrounds but share a common enthusiasm for flying.

Its a brilliant organisation and we should all support their work. Find out more here; http://www.bwpa.co.uk/
