Cranfield University, MSc in Aerospace Vehicle Design: – Presentation to Industry – On Thursday 28th April (10:30 – 15:30) the MSc in Aerospace Vehicle Design (AVD) students will present their final Group Project Design presentation to a prominent group of industry representatives.
Each year the project focuses on a different area of aerospace vehicle design and aims to enhance current thinking on new and innovative aircraft concepts for the future
Since working on the hand control project for disabled pilots, Cranfield University has been teaching all their Msc Aerospace Vehicle Design to design cockpits to accommodate both disabled and non disabled pilots. Current student Stefan Fischer will present the final phase of this project at the industry presentation.
The 2011 project is looking at the design of an advanced tilt-rotor aircraft, the V-10 Sparrowhawk. There has been recent interest in the application of the tilt-rotor concept to civil aviation. The concept offers the speed and altitude capability of the turbojet combined with the flexibility of a helicopter. Such a vehicle could fill a number of niches in the aviation market.
The Group Design Project has been an integral part of the Aerospace Vehicle Design course since the very beginning. It aims to provide students with the opportunity to work as a team in a ‘virtual industrial’ environment through which the knowledge and skills acquired from the taught lecture modules can be applied to a real aircraft design project.
