Plane trip: cross country; EGTC – EGSF – EGTC
Cranfield (EGTC) to Peterborough Connington (EGSF)
Wind: 280 / 20 – TAS: 100knots
To introduce my friend Rusty to the world of general aviation, i planned a short route to Peterborough Connington. A sweet little airfield.
We took off from Cranfield 13:30 on runway 21, with the wind being straight down the runway. Climbed to 100o ft, made a right hand turn onto 330 for Olney. Trimmed the aeroplane at the planned flight Alt of 2,800 feet and changed course to 035 – to Connington. I had the VOR set from Cranfield towards 030.
The sky was clear, and visibility was stunning. As we progressed on the flight, i would let Rusty know all the various things that i was doing, navigating with map to ground features, pointing out key landmarks or reference point to check we were on track, doing the FREDA check, changing frequencies and just enjoying flying with him.
When we got to Connington, we had a nice lunch and made our way back to Cranfield, routing to Stewartby brickworks which would be our VRP to get joining instructions to land on rwy 21, from base. The journey back, we had the sun right in our faces. I tell you this is where you need some good sun glasses which we both had.
We flew in a PA28, G-AXIO. I now fly two aeroplanes, the Pa28 and the Cessna 172. It feels great to have this freedom in the air.
