Sunday 27th April 2007 was spent at the City of London School for boys, on the North side of the River Thames looking across from The Tate Modern building. Myself and Cherie Blair would be judging a youth speaking competition. 
Our master of Ceromonies would be BBC News presenter Huw Edwards. I found him to be a brilliant man. He is very relaxed and spoke to me during the day as if we have known each other for many years. I have crossed paths with him a few times at the BBC but never spoke until this event. 
I was very fair and generous in my marking. Different from my co panel of judges who were alot tougher. In the end we did come to a meeting of minds when it came to picking the winners of the speaking competition. I learnt from watching the students too on how to give speeches. St Aloysius’ College, Glasgow were the clear winners. Winning the individual speaker, and the best school. Well done gang!
